Boy, the new Guardians of the Galaxy trailer looks good! Wait, this is for the new Thor movie? You sure?
In all seriousness, I do like this trailer. It’s clear that Taika Waititi, the director of What We Do in the Shadows, has brought his humorous edge to the movie, hopefully giving it a personality that the other Thor movies were sorely lacking. The trailer also very easily says what this movie will be about without spoiling the whole thing (**cough**Spiderman Homecoming**cough**), though to be fair this is only a teaser trailer. We see the action that sets the plot in motion (Mjolinr being destroyed) its’ consequences (Hela destroying Asagrd, Thor ending up in gladiator matches), and some teasing as to the second and third acts (Thor/Hulk team-up, Loki looking for warriors to fight Hela?)
Thor is happier than anybody has ever been to see a coworker outside of his job
Putting Jeff Goldbloom in funny makeup makes a guaranteed hit in my books (Independence Day: Resurgence would have been a lot better if David had put on some warpaint, just saying)
At least Marvel knows to not put covers of famous songs in their trailers, unlike DC
However, they still succumb to the dreaded “So I bet you’re wondering how I got here” opening narration cliche
No sign of Anthony Hopkins’ Odin or Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange, who are also supposed to show up in this movie in some capacity. Perhaps in the next trailer!
